Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

It is proven that anywhere from 80% to 95% of all fights end up on the ground. Whether you are talking about in the octagon, on the street, or anywhere else, being able to defend yourself on the ground is crucial to a complete self-defense education. With Jiu Jitsu that is precisely what you get.

In November of 1992 my whole life changed.  I was teaching Kenpo and Kickboxing 84 hours a week, 9AM to 10PM Monday thru Saturday and 9AM to 3PM on Sunday.  I considered myself a complete Martial Artist.

Then I saw the Ultimate Fighting Championship and was blown away.  At first I thought it was a mistake.  After UFC 3 I had a paradigm shift and realized I needed Gracie Jiu Jitsu.

Royce Gracie was smaller, thinner, and still tore through everyone.  From boxers, kickboxers, Muay Thai and Kenpo.

Royce Gracie practiced Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, a self defense system that was taught to him by his father Helio Gracie.  Helio had studied a more traditional form of Japanese Jiu-Jitsu with his brothers but tweaked it so he could be more effective because of his small stature.  Helio developed the art for maximum leverage and efficiency.

You will find arm bars, triangles, and all kinds of submissions in other forms of grappling like Judo or shoot fighting, but what I find different about Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu are the transitions from position to submission.  It's a very smooth self defense system.

In my opinion, when you hit the ground, there is no better system of self defense.  The offensive and defensive positions Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu teaches will allow you to perform submissions from every angle.

For this class a gi will be required unless you are training for a fight.
